A cellphone helped authorities arrest two armed robbery suspects accused of leading police on a chase through two Southside cities.
Peachtree City police Capt. Rosanna Dove said an employee of a clothing store was making a night deposit about 10 p.m. Saturday at the Wachovia in the Kedron Shopping Center when a man robbed her of the store’s cash, her car keys and cellphone.
A witness saw the gunman get into a burgundy car that headed toward Ga. 74, Dove said. Sprint activated the victim’s cellphone’s global positioning system, which helped police find the car in a College Park parking lot, Dove said.
The suspects fled the area, firing shots at pursuing police, and crashed their car in East Point, police said. A College Park police officer shot suspect Eric Pheotis Moore, 37, of Jonesboro in the leg while Moore was running from the car, authorities said.
Moore underwent surgery and is being treated at Grady Hospital.
The other suspect, Rodrick Levar Wheeler, 31, of Atlanta is being held in Fulton County. Wheeler was released from a Georgia prison in March for possession of cocaine in Richmond County, according to state Department of Corrections records.
College Park police charged each men with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer and Wheeler with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Peachtree City will charge the men with armed robbery.
