DeKalb police investigate online car scam
Victims lose deposit after test drive

The DeKalb County Police Department is currently investigating four cases where victims responding to a car sale ad on Craigslist and scammed out of hundreds of dollars.
According to detectives, the victims responded to postings by the suspect offering a Chrysler PT Cruiser and a GMC Yukon.
The suspect would then set a meeting with the victim to test drive one of the cars and during the test drive, the suspect would request deposits from the victims ranging from $500 to $1,600.
The suspect would then coax them from the vehicle and flee with the victims’ deposit money and cellphones.
Detectives are alerting and asking the public to be cautious when purchasing vehicles from online. They have identified a suspect and have secured warrants of Theft by Deception on him.
