Agnes Scott gets $1.5M for public health program

Trustee and 1961 graduate Pamela J. Bevier has given $1.5 million to help endow the undergraduate public health program at Decatur’s Agnes Scott College.

According to college officials, the gift will provide operating support and will also be used to expand a program for student internships at the Centers for Disease Control. In turn, the college will allot at least $1 million for an endowed fund named for Bevier to support the program.

A retired public health researcher who specialized in epidemiologic research on HIV and sexually transmitted diseases, Bevier held positions with the New York City Department of Health and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She was elected to the college’s Board of Trustees in 2007.
