The former top administrator for DeKalb County has taken a leadership role with an organization that fosters civic engagement.

Richard Stogner, who retired Dec. 31 as DeKalb executive assistant, has joined the board of Leadership DeKalb. The organization, with roots in the county chamber of commerce, teaches 50 business leaders a year about DeKalb governance.

Stogner ran the day-to-day operations in DeKalb for eight years under CEO Vernon Jones, after administrative careers in Fulton County and Atlanta. He said Leadership DeKalb recruited him to help focus its mission and its message.

Sara Fountain, the executive director of Leadership DeKalb, said Stogner will help the organization grow. “In these challenging economic times, having him on the board will be very welcome,” she said.
