Arriving firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from about 80 percent of the one-story, brick house, DeKalb fire Capt. Eric Jackson said.
Jackson said one resident had already pulled another person out of the house when fire crews arrived.
Firefighters entered the house and rescued two other people, he said. A fifth person in the house was able to escape without injury.
The injured, three adult men and an adult female, were taken to local hospitals.
Three of the residents suffered injuries that Jackson said are life-threatening, while the fourth sustained moderate injuries.
The names of those hurt were not immediately released, but Jackson said they were believed to be related to one another.
The cause of the blaze, which burned through the roof in the center of the house, had not been determined.
Jackson said it has “been a trying week” for DeKalb firefighters. Last week, three girls died in a housefire near Stone Mountain.
“People need to make sure they have fire escape plans and smoke alarms. I can’t stress that any more,” he said.
