No injuries after live power lines fall on bus

Wednesday, January 07, 2009

Thirty children escaped injury Wednesday afternoon after live power lines fell on their school bus in DeKalb County.

The bus was carrying Montgomery Elementary School students on Foresta Court, north of Chamblee, when a falling tree snagged power lines and carried them across the bus about 2:25 p.m., said DeKalb Fire Rescue Department Capt. Eric Jackson.

Jackson said high winds probably caused the tree to fall.

The driver and students remained on the bus until Georgia Power crews turned off the electricity, Jackson said. Some parents were allowed to take their children off the bus shortly after 3 p.m., he said.

School district spokesman Dale Davis said the bus driver then finished the route.
