DeKalb incorrectly reported Doraville results
Voters reject proposal for annexation

Three DeKalb County neighborhoods rejected a proposal to become part of Doraville in this week’s election, the opposite result than initially announced.
County elections officials said Thursday that the earlier information came because of problems with paper ballots that had to be hand-counted in the city’s Oakcliff precinct. In the end, the annexation referendum lost by just 34 votes out of 1,138 cast.

Problems first appeared during absentee voting, when some mailed ballots did not include the referendum. Those problems continued into early voting, when there were reports of the annexation not appearing on ballots.
Under the annexation proposal, Doraville would have bumped up against the new city of Dunwoody and grown by about 65 percent, to 17,000 residents.
Luke Howe, assistant to the mayor, said Mayor Ray Jenkins is weighing whether to ask the city council for an investigation and possible re-vote on the issue.
“Considering all the discrepancies, something has to be done,” Howe said.
