Fatal hit-and-run details released

DeKalb police Monday offered more details about the driver they are seeking in a hit-and-run accident that killed a 6-year-old girl.

Sofia Ataritio-Labra was walking with her 22-year-old sister past the entrance to a parking lot on Buford Highway about 6:25 p.m. Saturday when the two were hit by a minivan leaving the lot.

The driver fled. Sofia died, and her big sister was severely injured.

Police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said witnesses reported the driver briefly stopped and spoke with a Mexican accent. He was described as 25 to 30 years old with a shaved or bald head.

She said the vehicle is believed to be a Dodge Caravan, Chrysler Town and Country or Plymouth Voyager from the 1997 to 2000 model years.
