DeKalb forms transition team for new Dunwoody

DeKalb County is assembling a team to handle the transition of services to the new city of Dunwoody.

County chief executive officer Vernon Jones announced the formation of a nine-member group, comprising top officials from legal, public safety, planning, finance and other key county departments. The team will be led by Jones’ chief of staff, Ann Kimbrough.

A special committee appointed by Gov. Sonny Perdue meets Thursday to start discussions on intergovernmental agreements with DeKalb.

Dunwoody becomes a city on Dec. 1. DeKalb is obliged to offer some services, such as police, for as long as two years in exchange for payments from the city. The county may continue offering other services, such as building permits and inspections.
