Dunwoody has its first announced candidate for a district City Council seat.
Al Alberghini, a retired engineer who's lived in the community for 31 years, said he will run for the seat out of District 1, the western section of the new city.

Three other announced council candidates have all said they will run for at-large positions, which will be elected citywide.
Candidate qualifying is scheduled for Monday through Wednesday at the DeKalb Voter Registration and Elections Office.
Alberghini, 75, said he will draw on his experience as a businessman who can see a project through from start to finish to help guide the new municipality. A plastics technology expert, he developed the world's first two-liter plastic beverage bottle and holds 19 patents.
Alberghini is a native of West Springfield, Mass., and has an undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts and an MBA from Western New England College.
District council seat winners will serve a one-year first term and have to run for reelection in November 2009. At-large seat winners will have an initial term of three years. All council seats will have four-year terms after that.
Dunwoody will hold a special election to pick a mayor and six council members on Sept. 16. If necessary, a runoff election will be held Oct. 14.
