Property taxes could increase in Avondale Estates

Warning to property owners in Avondale Estates: start saving money to pay your property tax bill because it may be going up.

The tiny city in central DeKalb County announced Thursday that the property tax levy may rise 5.96 percent as a result of the new city budget.

Before the mayor and city commissioners can set the new millage rate, they have to hold three public meetings. The meetings will be held at Avondale Estates City Hall, 21 North Avondale Plaza.

The first is scheduled for May 14 at 5:30 p.m. and the final two are on May 19, at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
