The state House and Senate approved the Dunwoody proposal last week and sent it to the governor Friday after a two-year battle in the Legislature.
Dunwoody residents are to vote on cityhood July 15, if all goes according to the proponents' timeline. The vote for mayor and City Council is slated for September. The the government could be seated in December, according to the proponents' plan.
The federal Department of Justice has to review the proposal to make sure it complies with the Voting Rights Act. That process could take up to 60 days, under federal guidelines.
