DeKalb County police Monday were investigating a shooting outside a Covington Highway auto parts store that left a man dead.

Three employees of the Pep Boys store at Covington Highway and South Hairston Road were preparing to open the store when they heard gunshots outside the building shortly before 7:30 a.m., DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said.

The employees called 911, and when officers arrived, they found the unidentified victim dead near the side of the store.

Parish said the victim was "possibly a customer waiting for the store to open."

Detectives have not determined a motive for the slaying and had no suspects, Parish said about two hours after the shooting.
