Diamondbacks bring home second-place winThe Gresham Park 10-year-old Diamondbacks baseball team finished second in the AABC Willie Mays World Series in Puerto Rico. The Diamondbacks, who finished second in the state tournament and first in regional competition, finished the season with an overall record of 47-14.
Team members are: Corderias Dorsey, Montrell Edwards, Emon Frazier, Terone Harris, Terry McClure, Cortez McDowell, Jalen Miller, Terrence Prickett, Ernest Riles, Rodney Smith, Theordore Smith, Tyrius Walker, Marcus Williams, Darian Alston, Mickell Dennis, J'Markus George, Zachary Hayden, Daren Osby, manager Alice Burns and coaches Ricky Dawson, Benjamin King, Johnny Richards, Antonio Smith, Ernest Colbert and Maurice Hollins.
Cycling
Russ Wood of Atlanta raised more than $1,600 and completed the seven-day, 577-mile Tour de Cure New England Classic ride.
Golf
Matt O'Brien won the low gross title, Malachi Starks was runner-up and Eric O'Brien won the low net title in the Club Championship at Sugar Creek Golf Club. In the Seniors division, Tony Spinucci won low gross, Nate Tyner finished second and Robert Mitchell won low net.
Running
Neil Struby of Decatur finished the San Francisco Marathon in 3:33:37. Ouida Davis of Stone Mountain finished in 5:45:46.
Triathlon
Rami Odeh of Dunwoody won the Masters Clydesdale division title at the Tri the Parks Triathlon Series race at Richard B. Russell State Park in Elberton. He finished the 1,000-meter swim/22-mile bike/6.2-mile run in 2:17:31.
Yvonne Bedell of Dunwoody was second in the women's 30-34 age group in 2:13:37. Shawn Stegg of Dunwoody was second in men's 50-54 in 2:23:56. Adrian Hunter of Dunwoody was third in men's 60-64 in 2:41:00. Laurie Ann Schultz of Tucker was third in women's 40-44 in 2:43:23.

In the duathlon, Tatyana Fiyaksel of Tucker won the women's 30-34 age group title. She finished the 3.1-mile run/22-mile bike/6.2-mile run in 2:47:49. William Blanchard of Stone Mountain was second in men's 25-29 in 2:23:31. John Winiarski of Decatur finished in 2:38:38.
