Migration in and out

All migration figures are net figures (the number of people moving in minus the number moving out). Some migration data (See DeKalb, Fulton, Cobb counties) show a net outflow of people.

The time period for this data is July 1, 2003, to July 1, 2004.

Foreign migration, called international migration by the Census Bureau, is defined as movement across U.S. borders. The Census Bureau makes estimates of net international migration for the nation, states, and counties. It is: (1) net migration of the foreign born, (2) net movement from Puerto Rico, (3) net movement of the U.S. Armed Forces, and (4) emigration of the native born. The largest component, net migration of the foreign born, includes lawful permanent residents (immigrants), temporary migrants (such as students), humanitarian migrants (such as refugees), and people illegally present in the United States.

Internal migration consists of moves where both the origin and the destination are within the United States (excluding Puerto Rico).
