Teacher sentenced for sexual relationship with boy

A former Powder Springs Christian school teacher has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for child molestation and statutory rape after pleading guilty to having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy.

Holly Michelle Barnes, 25, was ordered to surrender her teaching certificate as part of her sentence. And once she is released from prison, Barnes must register as a sex offender. She will serve another 20 years on probation.

The boy was affiliated with the Grace Baptist Church, where Barnes also was a teacher, but the sexual encounter did not occur there, police said.

Barnes was arrested last Aug. 19.

She pleaded guilty and was sentenced by Paulding County Judge Tonny Beavers on June 2.
