The girl’s buttocks were injured to the point that raw flesh was visible, according to arrest warrants. The child had extensive bruises covering a large portion of her torso, head and face, according to the arrest warrants.

She was taken to Scottish Rite hospital for examination late Wednesday night.

Cobb police were called to a Marietta apartment after neighbors reported hearing screams.

Irving admitted to police that she hit the girl on her buttocks with a belt and the paddle, but said the injuries were not severe. Nunnally tried to escape out the back of the South Cobb Drive apartment as officers arrived, according to police.

Both Irving and Nunnally blamed each other for the child’s injuries. Neighbors told police they heard male and female voices in the apartment yelling “hold her down” and “stop her” as well as screaming. The suspects’ relationship to the girl was not disclosed in the warrants.

Irving also faces a charge for giving police a false name. She faces previous charges in Virginia for failing to appear to address conditions of a suspended sentence for an embezzlement conviction. Irving has been denied bond.

Bond for Nunnally has been set at $75,000.
