Annie Wang, a senior at Cobb County’s Walton High School, has been named the state’s STAR student by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators.
Wang, of Marietta, won the top honor out of 467 students selected statewide. She scored a perfect score of 2,400 on the SAT, along with nine other Georgia finalists.
The STAR program (student, teacher, achievement, recognition) honors outstanding seniors and their most influential teachers. To obtain the STAR nomination, students must earn the top SAT score at their school and be in the top 10 percent of their class, based on grade-point average.
As Georgia’s STAR student, Wang received a $5,000 scholarship from AT&T Georgia. She plans to attend Yale University in the fall.
Wang named Jennifer Snoddy, her AP U.S. history teacher, as her STAR teacher. Snoddy receives a $2,500 prize for the honor.
Wang is one of three Cobb students to earn perfect scores on the SAT. Andy Zhang, also of Walton, and Miles Edwards of Lassiter also scored 2,400.
