Crunch fitness center in Cobb closes abruptly

The Crunch fitness center in Cobb County’s Parkway Pointe location abruptly shut its doors this week.
Signs on the shuttered gym advised members of a Crunch location in Buckhead.
A white flier posted on the door directed members to the nearby LA Fitness on Cobb Parkway.
The closing was a surprise to Robert Max, who arrived dressed for his regular workout Thursday to find the doors to the gym closed.
Max said he last worked out at the location on Sunday and had received no word of its closing.
“For 24 years it’s been relatively inexpensive,” said Max, of Marietta. He said he worked out at a previous gym which was acquired by Crunch.
Crunch said in a statement that the “difficult decision” to close had been coming for some time, based on economic realities. Memberships at Crunch were transferred to LA Fitness, Crunch spokesman Tim Miller said. Founded in 1989, Crunch operates 28 locations nationwide, according to the company Web site.
