Cobb commissioners Tuesday approved a rezoning request for what will be the county’s tallest building, a 33-story residential tower.

The residential tower to be built on Cumberland Boulevard west of Cobb Parkway will be a retirement community.

The developer, City View Holdings, is an affiliate of Park Signature Properties, a builder of luxury condos in metro Atlanta.

When finished, the building will have 200 independent living units on 25 floors and 54 assisted living units on four floors. The other floors will be used for support services. Nursing services will be contracted out.

At 33 floors, the building will be one floor higher than the previous zoning allowed.

By comparison, the 500,000 square foot Riverwood 100 office tower at 3350 Riverwood Parkway is 23 floors.

“This is going to be the tallest building in the county at that time,” said County Commission Chairman Sam Olens.

The tower “could provide for some unique challenges,” Olens said. He suggested that the developer go over building plans with the county fire marshal.
