The Cobb County woman arrested for giving alcohol to minors allegedly purchased 1.75 liters of Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum and gave it to four teenagers at her home, according to her arrest warrant.

Kecia Evangela Whitfield, 43, of Powder Springs, was jailed Friday evening, a week after police say she furnished alcohol to the teenagers, all under the age of 18. One of the teenagers, 16-year-old Garrett Reed, died in a two-car accident which occurred at around 12:30 a.m. Jan. 24.

Whitfield is charged with reckless conduct and furnishing alcohol to persons under 21 years of age. Police set her bond at $10,000.

Reed, a junior on Harrison High School’s football team, was killed instantly when his car swerved into the opposite lane on Midway Road, near the intersection of Sylvia Drive, striking another car. The other driver, Richard C. Reyes of Dallas, suffered a leg injury.

Garrett’s father, Neal Reed, said he thought his son was on his way to spend the night with a friend when the accident occurred.

Police have said speed and alcohol played a role in the crash. They are awaiting the results of toxicology tests.
