Marietta police are looking for Richard Wayne Smith in connection with last week’s robbery and stabbing that left a man dead inside a Franklin Road apartment.
Smith, 21, has been on the run since police say he brutally stabbed George Nelson inside Nelson’s home at Autumn View Apartments on Nov. 15, according to police spokesman Mark Bishop.
Nelson, 42, was stabbed several times in the face, head and neck with a knife and a fork. Police say the suspect struck Nelson with another object to his head and stomped on his body.
Before leaving the apartment with Nelson’s laptop computer, the suspect tried to clean up the murder scene by pouring bleach over the victim’s body and the scene of the crime, according to the arrest warrant.
Bishop said that Smith and Nelson apparently knew each other because there was no forced entry into the apartment. Police have not released a motive in the crime.
Anyone with information about Smith should call 911 or Marietta police at 770-794-5334.
