Crime scene was Marietta home where renter had died

The day after she filed paperwork to evict people living in a Marietta home she owns, Flore Anderson learned her rental property was the scene of crime.
A two-hour standoff ended without incident Wednesday afternoon when three suspects surrendered to Cobb County police and SWAT team officials.
Anderson said she has no idea who any of the three are. Last month, she found out her tenant — Triscilla McMickens — died Aug. 27 at age 41.
McMickens’ three children, as well as others, may have been living in the ranch home on Pair Road.
“I’m actually putting a dead person out of my house because the law says I don’t have a tenant with my house,” Anderson said. “I’m trying to get possession of it now.”
Anderson said she originally rented the dwelling to McMickens and her two minor children. McMickens is also survived by an older child, who is now 20.
Since McMickens’ death, rent on the property has continued to be subsidized, said Jim Rattray with the Marietta Housing Authority. Anderson met with Rattray on Tuesday.
“If a landlord wants to evict a tenant, that’s between the landlord and the tenant,” Rattray said. The lease the housing authority has indicates the home was rented to McMickens and three children.
The incident began shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday, when an officer tried to stop a speeding blue Chevrolet Lumina on Powder Springs Road, Cobb police spokesman Dana Pierce said. The car allegedly was going 50 in a 35 mph zone.
Pierce said the 18-year-old driver, Walter Johns of Atlanta, refused to stop. The car turned onto Pair Road and then into a long driveway. The car hit a tree a few feet away, and three males got out and ran into the home. Three children inside were evacuated, along with other adults not connected with the chase.
Vonn Clark, 26, of Marietta, was a passenger in the car, along with an unidentified 16-year-old. Pierce said Clark lives in the home. It is not clear if Clark is related to McMickens.
All three were charged with obstruction, and Johns was also charged with driving without a license, eluding police and other minor charges, Pierce said. Atlanta police also have a warrant for Johns on separate charges.
No one was injured.
Anderson said the home has been trashed. Windows are broken, carpet is destroyed, and beer cans fill the crawl space.
“There’s no telling how many they have sleeping in the basement,” Anderson said.
