An Acworth construction worker hobbled by knee surgery and a bad back scooped up $1 million when he went out for ice cream and bought his second lottery ticket of the holiday weekend.

George Kull, 42, was so stunned when he scratched off his lottery ticket and saw he was a millionaire, he grabbed a passerby.

“I said: how about looking at this for me and telling me if I’m seeing right,” Kull said Wednesday.

The excavator, who hasn’t been able to work since anterior cruciate ligament surgery last September, said he spends about $60 weekly on lottery tickets.

Before hitting for a net of about $700,000, Kull said he was “probably a little bit in the hole” on his lottery spending. When he spent $20 on Monday, he said, “I was looking for a $10,000 winner.”

So far, Kull has bought a bass boat — a 19-foot Ranger — promised to pay off his parents’ home mortgage and started planning to take his niece and two nephews to Disney World for Thanksgiving.
