There's nothing like home-grown tomatoes.

The head of Marietta's farmers market is promoting organic and heirloom tomatoes. Cherokee Purple, Green Zebra, Creole, Orange Oxheart, Lemon Boy and German Queen are among the varieties for sale.

Jackson Counts, 8, from Kennesaw, smiles after buying some fresh flowers for his father. A number of farmers and merchants are setting up shop Tuesday mornings this summer to sell various types of produce, but some are selling bakery goods as well as fresh flowers.

"When you think of farmers markets, you think fresh tomatoes," John Fulmer said. "People are looking for home-grown. Our traffic has doubled."

The Saturday market, booming in its sixth season, has 45 vendors offering everything from fresh produce to soap, honey, shea butter and garden planters.

There are fresh markets open across Cobb on every day but Sunday and Monday.

On Thursday afternoons, up to 41 booths open around Powder Springs City Hall. And there's more than fresh veggies for sale. You can pick up lasagna from Liz Douglas; hummus and eggplant dip from Summer Kaleel or bread from "My Dad and Me Family Farm." Michelle Lawson of Old Bethany Farm sells sunflowers, cut flowers and elephant garlic along with a variety of produce.

If you miss your favorites at one market, you will probably find them at another.

Brian Higgins of Home Town Honey and Laura Stachler, who sells homemade ginger snaps, have booths in Powder Springs and Marietta.

James Preast and Chester Heath sell produce at several markets across the county.
