Both county commission seats are headed into runoffs.

Incumbent Joe Thompson, whose district includes Smyrna-Vinings and the lower portion of East Cobb, will face fellow Republican Bob Ott, a Delta pilot and Thompson's former appointee to the county planning and zoning boards.

"The numbers mean nearly 56 percent of the people who voted, voted against the incumbent," Ott said Wednesday.

Woody Thompson, who doubled incumbent Annette Kesting's vote count in the Democratic primary, but couldn't win outright, will see the freshman commissioner again in the Aug. 5 contest for the party nod to seek the county commission seat in southwest Cobb.

A two-term Republican commissioner now running as a Democrat, Thompson said he will seek the support of the other three Democratic candidates who did not make the runoff.
