Wednesday, June 24, 2009
A Riverdale man is in jail on charges he assaulted a Clayton County sheriff’s deputy and then fled.
Antonio D. Ladson, 22, was arrested Wednesday morning.
Sheriff’s deputies first encountered Ladson on Monday afternoon while trying to break up a domestic dispute, Clayton County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Sonja Sanchez said.
“The deputy was trying to apprehend him and an altercation broke out,” she said.
Ladson pushed the deputy and the two men struggled, Sanchez said. Ladson was able to get away.
The deputy received several cuts, but his ballistic vest prevented him from being seriously injured, Sanchez said.
Deputies said it is unclear whether Ladson had a weapon, but said that the deputy’s shirt was torn and had several puncture holes.
The deputy was treated for minor injuries and issued a warrant for Ladson’s arrest.
On Wednesday, deputies arrested Ladson at his Riverdale home.
Ladson is being held in the Clayton County Jail on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, aggravated stalking, obstruction and probation violation.
This is Ladson’s 14th arrest in the Clayton County since 2004, according to jail records. Last year, he was sentenced 12 months in jail after being convicted of aggravated assault, battery, carrying a pistol and criminal trespass, according to court records.
