A Riverdale woman is in serious condition after her car fell on her while she was changing a tire and dragged her down a Clayton County highway.
The woman stopped to change her tire Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Ga. 138 and Jonesboro Road. A man was helping her make the repairs when she reached under her Cadillac, Clayton County Police spokeswoman Lt. Rebecca Brown said.
The car fell, pinned her underneath and started to roll. It dragged her about 300 feet down the busy road before passersby intervened, Brown said.
A woman saw the car rolling down Jonesboro Road and chased after it. She jumped into the car and was able to put it in park, likely saving the victim’s life, police said.
Another witness flagged down an ambulance that was down the road, Brown said.
Paramedics and witnesses were able to lift the car with 2x4s, Brown said. They were able to free the woman after untangling her leg, which was caught inside the Cadillac’s engine, officers said.
Police blocked the intersection while an emergency helicopter landed.
The woman, a 20-year-old from Riverdale, is being flown to Grady Memorial Hospital. Brown said the woman is in serious condition, but was conscious while still under the car.
