Riverdale man drowns in Fla. trying to save others

A Riverdale man was one of three people to drown in the Florida Panhandle over the Easter weekend.

Joseph Jones, 39, died Friday in Destin after going into the ocean to help others caught in a rip current, the Destin Fire Control District reported. The others survived.

An unidentified airman stationed at Eglin Air Force Base drowned Friday after being caught in a rip current while tossing a football, and a 14-year-old boy died Sunday night after a kayaking accident in the Gulf of Mexico.
