Clayton police searching for thieves posing as salesmen

Clayton County authorities are looking for a pair of linoleum salesmen police believe stole a wedding ring and other valuables from an elderly Jonesboro woman.

Betty Gable, 70, told police two men talked their way into her home Tuesday by expressing an interest in antiques and linoleum, Clayton police Officer Tim Owens said. One of the men showed her samples of the floor covering.

The next day, Gable said she realized her gold and diamond wedding ring was gone, Owens said. Gable also reported the theft of her Social Security card, driver’s license, Bank of America card and $300 in cash, he said.

Owens said police are looking for the two men, who both had brown hair and wore blue jeans and brown boots. One is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 190 pounds, he said. The other is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about, 180 pounds, he said.
