Visitors to Morrow can see an edgier side of the town in photographs unveiled this week along with works of art by city employees.
The photos are of notable points of interest within Morrow, but Jonesboro photographer Larry McDonald got creative with the results. Morrow Business and Tourism Association Executive Director Mike Twomey said he asked McDonald to capture images around town.
“I told Larry, ‘OK, I don’t just want pretty pictures of Morrow, I want them to be edgy, contemporary and artistic,’” Twomey said. “‘Think Andy Warhol.’”
Twomey showed him what he was envisioning. McDonald immediately grasped the idea.
“I think the city of Morrow and its attractions were captured in a way that they have never been or would have been without this project,” said McDonald.
The photos were unveiled Monday and are on display inside the tourism offices at 1115 Mount Zion Road in Morrow.
McDonald is the owner of Vintage Photography Studio in Jonesboro and he is a board member and staff photographer for the Arts Clayton Gallery.
Other pieces of artwork on display in the MBTA’s exhibit are by Morrow fire Chief Mark Herendeen, Morrow City Clerk Sylvia Redic and Peggy Millirons, wife of Morrow Mayor Jim Millirons.
