A sex offender from Texas was arrested by authorities in Cherokee County after he was involved in an auto accident.
Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joshua Garza, 35, on Wednesday after an early morning wreck on Bells Ferry Road in Canton.
They determined that Garza, the driver, was a sex offender from Texas, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office. Garza had been convicted in Texas of indecency/sexual contact with a 9-year-old, police said.
Garza was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, driving without a license, weaving over a roadway, obstruction of an officer and violation of the Georgia Sex Offender Registry.
Bob Post, a sex offender investigator with the sheriff’s office, uncovered evidence that Garza had been living at the Preston Glenn apartments for six weeks and was working in Cherokee County, the release said.
