The suspect in an early-morning shooting at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex surrendered to police Friday after holding a SWAT team at bay for nearly five hours.
Atlanta police spokesman Eric Schwartz said the suspect and victim were both inside an apartment at 1250 Donnelly Ave. in West End when they got into an argument before 7 a.m.
The argument escalated, and the victim, whose name has not been released, was shot in the thigh, Schwartz said. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
The Atlanta police SWAT team was called to the complex when the suspect, identified as Pierce Rahming, refused to come out of the apartment, Schwartz said.
After several hours of negotiations, Rahming surrendered without incident shortly before 11:30 a.m.
Rahming, whose age was not immediately available, was charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Schwartz said he is also wanted on warrants out of Cobb County.
