Break-in at home of City Council president

Atlanta City Council president and mayoral candidate Lisa Borders has been the victim of a burglary three times since September.

The latest happened shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday, when Borders called police from her downtown condo to report that the burglar alarm had sounded.

Atlanta police were investigating after glass was broken and the burglar alarm went off at the home of Lisa Borders, City Council president and mayoral candidate.

“The intruders were startled and we don’t believe anything was taken,” said Officer James Polite, a police spokesman.

Borders’ home in southwest Atlanta was broken into last September and in January. Thieves took two flat-screen TVs in the January burglary.

Borders said she doesn’t know if she’s being targeted, or if Wednesday’s burglary is unrelated to the previous two.

“It’s certainly unnerving,” Borders said, “but the police were fantastic in getting here and making sure the house was clear. The 911 operator was very calm and kept me on the phone the entire time. Everybody was extremely responsive and on point.

“And I am grateful for that.”

A broken window was visible from outside the condo. Borders said she believes the burglars were hunting for electronic equipment.
