His half-brother, Andre Johnson, 15, remains in stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital, according to older sibling Nickolas Johnson.
Atlanta Police were searching for as many as eight suspects in the attack. Investigators believe the three teens were innocent victims of local gang members.
Witnesses said two cars, a white Ford Crown Victoria and black Saturn, were seen pulling away from the corner of Haygood Avenue and Hank Aaron Drive following the gunfire.
Identifying themselves as being from the nearby Pittsburgh community, they were apparently looking to avenge a friend who had been in a fight with someone from Peoplestown, where the shootings occurred.
Peek could not confirm if White and Thomas hail from Pittsburgh, or if they are affiliated with a gang.
Meanwhile, Andre Johnson is recovering from reconstructive jaw surgery and will soon be fitted with a glass eye to replace the one lost to a bullet. Family members waited until after his first surgery to inform the Carver High School sophomore his half-brother died.
“He’s taking it hard,” said Nickolas Johnson.
Peek said the investigation is ongoing.
