An ongoing dispute between neighbors led one man to fatally shoot another after chasing him down their street in northwest Atlanta on Tuesday morning, police said.
Jason Ferrell, 24, was shot at least two times in the back before he died, said Atlanta police Lt. Keith Meadows, commander of the department’s homicide unit. Police arrested Jerome Wade, 45, who lives several doors down from Ferrell, on a murder charge, Meadows said. He was in the Fulton County Jail Tuesday night.
Recently, Wade had a problem with his home being burglarized repeatedly over the past several months, Meadows said. Wade told police he suspected Ferrell was the burglar.
About 9 a.m. Tuesday, Wade thought someone was trying to break into his house again while he was inside, Meadows said.
Wade came outside to find Ferrell breaking out windows on his vehicle with a hammer.
Wade got a gun from inside his home and came out shooting at Ferrell, Meadows said. Wade began firing from his front porch and when Ferrell took off running down the street, Wade followed him and continued shooting, Meadows said.
Ferrell collapsed outside his home and was later taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Wade’s home is in the 150 block of Fairfield Place; Ferrell lived several doors down in the 130 block of Fairfield Place, police said.
