A Palmetto man’s “guilty conscience” led him to turn himself in a day after a deadly carjacking in Fairburn, police said.
WAGA-TV Channel 5 News reported that Kealy Williams, 26, was in police custody charged in connection with the Thursday afternoon shooting death of Terrance Harris, 41, who was in town from Ohio for his father’s funeral.
“He got a guilty conscience and basically turned himself in,” Fairburn police Sgt. Charles Israel said of Williams late Friday night.
Israel and other officers searched near Williams’ Palmetto home Friday night for the murder weapon while he was being held at the South Fulton Municipal Regional Jail in Union City.
Police have charged Williams with murder, and other charges could be forthcoming, Israel said.
Harris, 41, of Shaker Heights, Ohio, and another relative were cleaning his late father’s Cadillac around 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Golden Shine Car Wash on Ga. 74, near the busy I-85 interchange.
Harris was in town for his father’s funeral.
Williams reportedly approached them, demanding the vehicle. The perpetrator opened the passenger door and shot Harris once in the torso, according to Eric Wiley, a cousin of Harris’.
“At the moment it appears to be a random, senseless act of violence,” Israel said.
