A hospital spokeswoman, Denise Simpson, on Thursday released a statement about the arrest, saying that Tweneboah was immediately terminated and that the hospital was cooperating with authorities. The statement also said that a criminal background check on Tweneboah prior to his hiring did not reveal any warning signs.

“A complete background check of this employee was done prior to his employment with the health system and his record was clean,” the statement said.

Simpson said in an e-mail that she did not immediately know how long Tweneboah had been working at Grady.

The alleged incident occurred around 2 a.m. Oct. 9, according to an Atlanta police report.

The victim, a 37-year-old woman, could not speak because she had a gunshot wound to the throat, but reported the incident to police by writing her accusations down on a piece of paper, the report said.

She wrote that Tweneboah kissed her and grabbed her breast a couple times without her consent, and took her hand and put it on his sexual anatomy, the report said. She also told police that the man told her that he would return a little later for a sexual favor, according to the report.

Tweneboah, who was booked into custody Oct. 9, admitted to kissing the victim on the forehead but denied touching her breast and putting her hand on his private parts, the report said.
