Gas isn’t the only product that’s had a supply and demand issue in Atlanta lately.

A line formed outside Walter’s Clothing store downtown about 5:30 a.m. Saturday, store workers said, as sneaker addicts waited for the release of a new Air Jordan shoe.

The ‘Nelly,’ an Air Jordan Six Rings shoe partly designed by the rapper, sold for $160 at Walter’s Clothing in downtown Atlanta Saturday morning. A line for the limited production shoe formed about 5:30 a.m. outside the store, which had only 16 pairs.

The “Nelly,” a Jordan six rings shoe designed partly by rap artist Nelly, has elements of shoes worn by Michael Jordan when he won his six championships.

Walter’s Clothing had only 16 pairs of the laser-cut shoe and doesn’t expect to get more. Most of the $160 shoes were gone 15 minutes after the shop opened at 8:30 a.m., but two remained late-morning: sizes seven-and-a-half and eight. Still, the store was turning away customers with bigger feet. One shopper told workers he’d come from Tampa on a hunt for the shoes.

“Anybody who’s out here at 5 a.m., you’ve got to be a real sneaker head, a sneaker guru,” said Walter’s buyer and salesman Patrick Morrison.
