A Fulton County grand jury Friday indicted a Michigan man for a brutal beating last December that left a celebrity fitness trainer in a coma.

Apollo Holmes was arrested in January and is charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery in connection with the Dec. 26, 2007, attack on Darius Miller.

Holmes, 25, of Pontiac, Mich., was arrested five days later, but was released on $100,000 bond.

Miller, now 42, was beaten by a group of men after he tried to stop them from videotaping two of Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin’s daughters outside a Peachtree Street nightclub.

Yvette Brown, spokeswoman for Fulton District Attorney Paul Howard, said witnesses told investigators that Holmes stomped Miller in the chest.

Miller lapsed into a coma a short time later, and remains comatose, Brown said Friday.
