Fulton County police Friday said they were looking for a suspect who rammed a stolen sport utility vehicle into a patrol car, then tried to run over an officer.

The incident happened about 1 a.m. after officers spotted a Chevrolet Tahoe that had been reported stolen by the OnStar vehicle tracking system, Fulton police Cpl. Melissa Parker said.

When officers stopped the Tahoe on Fulton Industrial Boulevard at Patton Drive, “the driver of the vehicle threw it in reverse and rammed the patrol car that was behind him, then fled forward in an attempt to run over an officer that was outside the car,” Parker said.

“The officer began firing shots while he was moving out of the way,” Parker said.

No officers were injured, she said. It was not known whether the suspect was hit by the officer’s shots.

A short time later, the Tahoe was found abandoned near the edge of a wooded area on Santa Rosa Drive in southwest Atlanta, Parker said.

A Fulton police SWAT team, assisted by a Douglas County sheriff’s K-9 unit, searched the woods, but were unable to locate the suspect, Parker said.
