Dan Young and his partner are openly gay and own a business together.
And, apparently, somebody has a problem with that.
|
Beginning late last month, someone has returned to the couple's upholstery and design business in Buckhead over and over, using spray paint or permanent markers to write anti-gay messages on their windows, according to an Atlanta police report.
"It has flabbergasted us," said Young, 53. "We've never had a cross word with anybody. We have no idea."
Young said he and his partner, 61-year-old Larry Bilger, have owned the business, Top Notch Upholstery & Design, in the 3100 block of Roswell Road for 16 years.
"Never had a problem," Young said.
Until June 26.
Anti-gay slurs, written in Spanish, began showing up on their windows, Young said.
Young said they would take the hurtful words off with paint thinner. Like clockwork, the next morning, they would return.
It's happened between five and seven times between June 26 and July 2, Young said.
The owners reported the crimes to police, but no arrests have been made.
Meanwhile, Young and Bilger are trying to get to the bottom of it. They're putting up a surveillance camera in the next week or so.
