Downtown Atlanta motorists don't have to worry about interstate repaving on Sunday, but they'll need to dodge several surface street closings related to the Atlanta Pride Parade.
Atlanta police said the following streets will be closed for the parade, which starts at 1 p.m.:
|
• 10th Street from Monroe Drive to West Peachtree Street
• Peachtree Street from 14th Street to Baker Street
• Ralph McGill Boulevard from West Peachtree Street to Central Park Place
• 14th Street from Peachtree Street to 12th Street
• Piedmont Avenue from Ponce De Leon Avenue to 14th Street
• Pine Street exit ramp from Interstate 75/85 northbound
• All side streets in between the noted streets.
The assembly area for the parade is on 10th Street between Monroe Drive and Myrtle Street, and on Charles Allen Drive from 8th Street to 10th Street.
Those streets will close at 10 a.m., and are expected to reopen at about 3 p.m.
Officials recommend that motorists avoid those areas, and that anyone traveling in the area to use MARTA. Police officials said they will strictly enforce all traffic and parking laws by ticketing and impounding illegally parked vehicles.
The Georgia Department of Transportation suspended its weekend repaving project on the downtown connector for the holiday weekend.
