A construction worker was in stable condition Thursday after being rescued from a 20 foot-deep trench at a Midtown work site.
The incident occurred about 10:15 a.m. Thursday at an apartment building under construction at North and Piedmont avenues, Atlanta fire Capt. Stephen Hill said.

The 28-year-old man was assembling pipes at the bottom of the trench when a section of pipe being lowered into the ditch fell on him, Hill said.
The worker, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital after being raised from the trench by firefighters.
