A truck struck and killed an 11-year-old girl Friday morning while she was on her way to summer school classes in southeast Atlanta.
Atlanta police spokesman Ron Campbell said Alexis Allen had just gotten off a MARTA bus at the intersection of Custer Avenue and Funston Street about 7 a.m. and was crossing Custer Avenue to Benteen Elementary School.

Alexis was in the middle of the intersection between two crosswalks when the driver of a flat bed wrecker pulled around the bus, which was stopped by a double yellow line, and hit the girl, Campbell said.
She died at the scene.
The girl's mother, whose name has not been released, was also riding the MARTA bus and saw her daughter being hit, said Joe Manguno, spokesman for Atlanta Public Schools.
Campbell said the wrecker driver, "didn't realize he had struck the child, and he drove around the block and came back to the scene."
Police arrested the driver, 68-year-old Cirilo Figueroa of Atlanta for second-degree vehicular homicide and improper passing.
Manguno said Alexis had just finished her fifth-grade year at Thomasville Heights Elementary School, and was taking math classes during the summer session at Benteen.
