"I'm a little bit flabbergasted" with the allocation, said State Sen. Vincent Fort (D-Atlanta), who had urged officials to at least double that amount. "$12 million is $12 million, but we wish it had been more."

The commission approved a $58.9 million supplementary budget for 15 trauma centers around the state. Grady received the lion's share of funding.

The next-largest amount, $5.07 million, went to the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

The Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah got $5.66 million, and the Medical College of Central Georgia in Macon received $3.5 million.
