Colbert's live-in fiancee' found his body later that afternoon when she returned from work to their 14th floor unit in the Darlington Apartments at 2025 Peachtree Road, Meadows said.

Detectives followed a trail of blood from the victim's apartment to Welborn's apartment on the 7th floor. The blood trail then led down a stairway and outside the building, Meadows said.

He said investigators got a search warrant and found the victim's wallet and bloody clothing inside Welborn's apartment.

Thursday afternoon, Welborn, who had suffered minor cuts in the attack on his neighbor, was arrested in Fairburn.

He was being held without bond Friday in the Fulton County Jail, charged with murder, aggravated assault and armed robbery.
