The Atlanta Development Authority has sold the Vineyards Apartments in Vine City to a Christian-based homeless organization that plans to redevelop the property into housing for intact homeless families.
The property sold for $755,000 to Community Concerns, Inc., a ministry of the Chapel of Christian Love Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, which plans to spend $1 million on renovations.

Plans call for redeveloping four buildings into 32 apartment homes for homeless families as well as a new community center, meeting rooms and on-site laundry facilities. The organization will team up with the Fulton County Human Services Department to provide services for the families, according to a news release from the development authority.
Most of the funds for the property acquisition came from the Homeless Opportunity Fund, which is administered by the development authority. Community Concerns will receive $1.4 million from the fund.
"This housing will help address a growing need to reunite homeless families so that the father isn't in one shelter and the mom and children in another shelter," Debi Starnes, a policy advisor to Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, said in a news release. "The goal is to provide the initial step for these families, to help them rebuild their lives and become stable, self-sufficient residents of the community."
