In a crime repeated numerous times in recent months, burglars early Monday stole blue jeans from a clothing store in the heart of Atlanta's Virginia Highland commercial district, police said.

Thieves threw a rock through the glass front door of M III, in the 900 block of Virginia Avenue near North Highland Avenue, before making off with merchandise such as high-end jeans and t-shirts, Atlanta police Lt. Willie Jackson said.

Jackson said investigators are trying to find witnesses and are reviewing security video from the store. He said the store owners are taking inventory to determine how much clothing was stolen.

The incident was the latest in a rash of smash-and-grab burglaries at metro Atlanta stores selling high-end blue jeans since last summer.

Earlier this month, a similar burglary occurred at Boogaloos, a clothing boutique in downtown Decatur. A jogger heard glass breaking and notified police, who arrived to find the front door shattered and the store in disarray.

Last month, thieves made off with about $15,000 in blue jeans during a 4:30 a.m. burglary at Bluprint, a clothing store on Garrett Street in southeast Atlanta.
