While average gas prices across metro Atlanta continue to inch closer to the $1.50-a-gallon mark, some stations were selling unleaded regular Monday for under $1.40 a gallon.

Gasbuddy.com, a Web site that tracks gasoline prices, reported gas for $1.34 to $1.39 a gallon at more than a dozen stations, mostly in Gwinnett County.

The lowest price reported Monday was $1.34 at a Chevron station on Winder Highway in Lawrenceville, followed closely by a Shell station at Exit 212 off I-75 in Locust Grove that was selling gas for $1.35 a gallon.

Monday’s average metro-wide price of $1.56 was 2 cents cheaper than Sunday’s average and 16 cents lower than the national average of $1.72, according to Gasbuddy.com.

The last time average prices were this low was nearly five years ago, in January, 2004.
